Although it took a little longer than usual, we ended up getting quite a bit of snow this winter which should help keep us from getting too dry this Summer. Spring is coming and I am pretty sure that Dale was joking when he said that the snow maybe won’t finish melting until July this year … I guess we will just have to wait and see. Thank you to him for submitting the Picture of the Week during the winter to keep us updated on conditions at the lake.
Right now it is difficult to remember the hot days of last summer, but I know we had them just like we do every year. I always love to see the beach busy with families, enjoying the water and playing in the sand. I also look forward to at least one night this summer with a Community Campfire either at the beach or in the picnic shelter. If you didn’t make it to fire the last summer, then you missed out on something quite different than our typical events. The Canada Parade and fireworks were a great success once again too. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make these and other events happen, and a special thanks to everyone who helped Jim (140) to keep the lawn mowed at Moose Park. It was nice having that area available for events and private functions all summer, and I hope this will continue.
At the last Annual Meeting there was a discussion about vehicle speed on the Resort. I realize that 10km/hr is “very slow”, but I have always wondered why people are in such a hurry anyway. After all, they are at the lake. This speed limit is in effect for all roads and pathways on the Resort not just to make it safe for the kids, but to help keep the noise and dust down as well. At the Meeting, it was decided that we would try putting speed bumps at key locations around the Resort to help remind people to watch their speed on the Resort. Please watch for these to appear this summer and remember, if you have to slow down to go over them then you are probably going too fast in the first place.
It was also decided at the last Annual Meeting, to allow inverter generators in Moose Park on a trial basis. There were a couple of times last summer when generators were being run at various times during the day. I did not get any complaints about the noise, so we will be continuing this test for another summer. If you have any thoughts or concerns about events being held in this area, please contact me.
I have had a couple of questions regarding the insurance requirement in your lease agreement. All Annual Campers are required to carry at least $2.0 million of liability insurance on the lot, and to provide me with proof of this coverage. This requirement is for your protection, as well as ours, to protect you from a lawsuit relating to an accident on your lot. Liability could result from something as simple as someone tripping on your deck, or from your lot being found to be the source of a wildfire and you being held responsible by the government for the cost of fighting it. I have been told that getting this coverage in place is neither complicated nor expensive, especially if you already have comparable insurance for your home (which everyone should). All you have to do is ask your insurance agent to add your lot to your existing home policy as a secondary location, and refer them to the “Directions” page on our website for more information. All of you should already have this coverage in place for each year, but if you do not then you need to get this done as soon as possible. This year, all Annual Campers will need to provide proof of this liability insurance coverage to me (just an email is fine).
I have recently confirmed that there are plans to have a Quad Rally this summer. There was a time when this event was held each year at the lake, and it was enjoyed by many Annual Campers. My son and I participated in it about 10 years ago and I will never forget him asking me “What do I do now?”, after he buried his machine up past the seat in about 3 feet of muck. This event will take a lot of work both before and during the day. If you are willing to help make it happen then please contact Joanna, the events coordinator (events@fawcettlakeresort.com) to be put in touch with the right people. Watch our website and the FLRCA Facebook page for more information on this event, and remember to wear a helmet because that is now the law both on public land and on the Resort.
As usual, the Annual Meeting is scheduled for the Sunday of the May long weekend (May 20, 2018), at 1.00pm by the Store Community Building. Thanks to Amelia (90) for agreeing to run it this year. Any topic to be discussed at the meeting should be sent to the events coordinator to be added to the agenda. This is our community meeting and decisions will be made at it. Everyone is welcome, but remember to bring a lawn chair and dress for the weather because it is held outside.
See you at the Lake
