2019 Newsletter

April 12, 2019

Once again the long Alberta winter is finally almost over.  The snow has started to disappear already, but the ice on the lake is not really showing any sign of melting yet.  Like last year, this season should be pretty relaxed.  Many of the new families who came to the Resort after the construction period have now settled in to their lot.  However, several families decided to change lots over the winter so don’t be too surprized if your friends from down the road are now right next door.  There were some vacant lots that resulted from all of this changing around, so there will be new families to welcome to the Resort as the summer progresses.  Many of them chose their lot earlier in the winter and are eager to get to the lake.

Last summer, someone told me that they are proud to be a “long timer” of the Resort, having been part of it for almost five years.  I always enjoy hearing people express their love of the lake, showing what has grown into a strong community spirit.  On behalf of my family, I would like to thank all of the “long timers”, especially the more than a dozen families who have been at the Resort continuously for over twenty-five seasons.  This includes a few with a history of coming to the lake for more than fifty years.  Personally, I am proud to say that it was forty years ago this summer that my family was fortunate enough to become part of the Resort.  I grew up at the lake, my kids grew up at the lake and I hope that someday my grand-children will grow up at the lake too (although, my wife and I are not quite ready for that yet).

This year, a big thank you also goes to the Hunt family for providing something new at the Resort.  The “Forever Bench” will be put on the lawn in front of the Store Community Building, sometime soon.  There will be room for nameplates on the bench and for flowers to plant nearby.  This will become an area to remember those who are no longer with us, but who will be Forever Fawcett Lake Friends.  If there is a certain past community member that you would like remembered in this way, please contact me.

Thank you also to everyone who got involved in organizing the many past activities we have had.  The Fawcett Lake Resort Campers Association (FLRCA) relies on volunteers to make these events happen.  There is money available for events held and it is nice to know that people in our community are willing to make the effort to help make each summer that much more enjoyable.  In addition to the Canada Celebration each year, I often hear of other possible events such as craft days, community campfires and summer barbeques.  If you would like to get involved in any of these events or if you have an idea for a new one then just send a message to our Events Coordinator (events@fawcettlakeresort.com).  Joanna will then put you in touch with others who have similar ideas.

There are other FLRCA volunteer positions to fill that are not quite as fun, but just as important.  We are starting to have a pretty active bank account with all of the events that are happening.  Keeping track of the funds received and the payments made has become an ongoing responsibility.  On the other hand, taking notes at the Annual Meeting for our website really can be done in a single day.  If you are interested in filling the roles of Treasurer or Secretary for this season, please let me know.

Did you know that you can now pay your FLRCA guest fees by etransfer?  You still need to submit a completed (and empty) registration envelope, but you also need to send the etransfer password to Curtis from the phone number you provided on the envelope.  Detailed instructions are on the payment envelopes which are available near the mailbox on the deck in front of the Store Community Building.

Just a reminder, accessing the Storage Area can be very muddy sometimes.  If there is no barricade across the road then you may enter it when needed, but please avoid tracking mud back into the Resort after you leave.  Instead, if conditions are wet, use the back gate and return to your lot using the Emergency Road behind the Resort.  This gate is not locked during the summer months but you should always close it behind you to help keep the Storage Area secure.  Also, the back road is very close to many lots so remember to minimize dust and noise by respecting the Resort speed limit of 10 km/hr.

As you know, electric generators may not be used on the Resort.  However, there is no power available in Moose Park and this really limits how this group area can be used.  For two years we have been testing to see if using them in this area would work.  There have been no unaddressed complaints from these tests, so Moose Park will now be designated as an area where the use of inverter generators is allowed.

Mark your calendar, the Annual Meeting is scheduled for the Sunday of the May long weekend (May 19, 2019), at 1.00pm by the Store Community Building.  If you would like a specific topic discussed at the meeting then send it to the Events Coordinator.  Everyone is welcome, as this is our community meeting. You will need to bring a lawn chair and dress for the weather because it is held outside.

See you at the Lake
